Weapon of Choice II
She Said
This barbeque rocks. Whereas I concur that All-Barbeque-All-The-Time does require a little imagination, the sky’s the limit with this bad boy. It’s true that the BTUs coming off that side burner are a little high, but that helps to develop character… and finesse!
In the category of Don’t Believe the Hype, however, I have to say that the “marinating station”, on the left side of the barbeque, is a load of hooey. A great idea, to be sure, but poorly executed, in my opinion.
This “wing” of the barbeque is equipped with a “marinating tray” in which to marinate your items, plus a removable cutting board that fits into a slot that covers your food. Lifting the cover allows you to remove marinating items and use the cutting board to…
- Cut? Too flimsy – balancing ever-so-delicately over the edge of the shelf.
- Dry? Maybe. One or two steaks, depending on size, tops. A lot of clean-up for something that you could have done more easily inside….
- Oil? The board itself is too small to accommodate multiple items, making it a messy proposition – oil, wipe hands, where to put this thing…? On the grill? Then everything goes on at a different time…. Headache!!
- Skewer? Okay, but I probably have the same arguments as above.
Furthermore, is your Weapon of Choice positioned in the sun? How long is your food going to sit there in “the danger zone”?? Can anyone say, “food-born illness”?!? The only way around this is to fill it with ice and have your food items in a plastic bag – unwieldy at best, and there’s still the mess….
Ultimately, I think the only use for the “marination station” is to transform it into the libation station (bomp, bomp; oh yeah…). Turn your marinating tray into an ice bucket, throw in some bevies and voila! – who can even think about walking away from this kickass grill?? Use the cutting board to skewer your limes, instead!!
Truthfully, this is my only knock against the WoC – it is otherwise a complete dream come true for us, having spent 109 days, now (and counting!) with no kitchen range!!
New recipes coming soon! Stay tuned!!

Agreed. The marinating station is poorly thought out and executed. Just having a solid shelf would be an improvement; that said, the libation station is the destiny of that shelf.
