Smoker Update: Finally some ribs

I must adit that I haven’t used the smoker since the first time effort with pork tenderloin. On Sunday I was home alone with the boys in the afternoon, so I decided to try my hand at smoking some ribs.

The test subjects were both short ribs and the great big ones. I slopped them in PC Smokin Stampede Beer & Chipotle sauce and tossed them in. This time, the outside temperature was a fair bit cooler than last time, so I figured it would be even harder to heat it up. After a bit of fooling around, I figured out that the best way was to keep the chimney open all the way and open the hopper door about an inch. This kept the cooking area nice and hot.

The result? Maybe the best ribs I’ve ever made! Never again will we boil ribs and then throw them on the BBQ. Well, maybe in a time crunch. The only problem with smoking is the time factor. It takes a long time, and you have to be there to control the fire. The results are worth it though.

Blog Review: KidsKuisine

104.jpg

Who woulda thought? A cooking with kids blog that has a recipe for Kitty Litter Cake! Kidskuisine has the somewhat frightening cake treat, along with a whole lot more. Recipes are designed to be easy and fun for kids to make and eat. Some of the cooler treats for Halloween included Glycol Punch, Pumpkin Gut Nachos and even Pond Scum.

We’ve got birthdays coming up, and I’ll be the boys will want to gross out their friends with a litter box full of cat crap!

Brown Glazed Pearl Onions

When I spotted this recipe I figured it was a simple side that would be enjoyed by all. The only problem is that it didn’t really stand out for me in the actual meal. Now I’m not sure if that’s just because I was three sheets to the wind, or if everything else was just that good that they flew under the radar. I’m going to try these again soon to see how they fare.

The prep is really pretty simpe, so they should become a staple.

Ingredients

  • Pearl onions
  • Butter

Don’t Bruise Your Banana

The perv in me just couldn’t leave this one alone. Wrap yer nanner folks!

Seriously though, while this looks more at home in a sex shop, it belongs in your kid’s lunch box. Say goodbye to the dastardly squished banana and hello to the firm, unblemished fruit. Your offspring will thank you for protecting their daily source of potassium.

No word if they offer a magnum model for those rare xtra long monkey treats.
