Kitchen Reno: Day Four

She Said

Charles and Rob arrive at 8:30 a.m..

Today is the day to lay the slate tiles.  I can hardly control my excitement!!

Charles starts with the front entrance to the house, which has also been suffering from tacky ceramicitis.  He’s trying to ensure that I won’t be completely trapped, since all of our exits are affected by the flooring change.

The front looks awesome!!  Now, onto the kitchen….

D’oh!!  The walls aren’t square.

How is it that we didn’t know that, based on the ceramic (square) tiles??  Well, I guess whoever lay that tile did what Charles is going to do… “cheat”.  He’ll line up the first row with the entrance to the kitchen and gradually shift the tiles so that they’ll appear to be square when he gets to the far wall, ensuring that the cabinets don’t look like they’re misaligned when they go in.  Genius.

It’s part of the artistry of laying tiles – no joke.

And so, today’s superstar is Charles, of Ottawa Diamond Flooring!  I’m sure he’s seen it a thousand times before, but he just kept his cool and used his noggin and kept on keepin’ on.  Thanks, man!!

Tomorrow:  The grout.

Stay tuned!

Artistry is right…I can’t even detect the shift to compensate for the out-of-square room.
