So the photo isn’t overly foodie related, the meal most definitely was.
As regular readers know, I travel on occasion for automotive media events and get to stay in some pretty swanky spots. This week I had the pleasure of staying at Windermere House in Ontario’s Muskoka region. OK, I ate a meal, swilled a few pints and crashed there. The day ran late and I had some extra photo work to do, so I really didn’t spend any time checking out the hotel and grounds.
The storied resort was burnt to the ground during the filming of the Hollywood flick The Long Kiss Goodnight and was carefully rebuilt and re-opened in 1997. The now modern hotel boasts a number of restaurants, from a sushi bar to a huge basement pub and patio. Alongside the traditional lobby bar, is the wonderfully cozy Rosseau’s Grill. All of the dining options are operated by the popular Oliver & Bonacini.
It had been a long, busy day and I was looking forward to a simple meal of Steak Frites when I scanned the menu and noticed the Rosseau Grill Beef Burger. In the previous 24 hours I had already consumed 2 burgers, but the description blew me away and I had to try it.
“topped with pulled pork, cheddar, creamy coleslaw, dill pickle & Yukon Gold fries”
Uummm….yeah. Like I could turn down a burger piled high with pulled pork, cheddar and coleslaw!
The burger itself was actually quite thin and almost overdone. It had a just a hint of a char that gave the beef a bit of a crunch. Normally that would not have worked for me, but the moisture of the bbq sauce in the pulled pork, coupled with the tang of the coleslaw, this was one serious handful of BBQ heaven. The guy next to me also had one. He ate his fries first, while I ate my burger. He chuckled that I did not put it down, to which I answered that I was afraid to in case I couldn’t pick the whole mess up again. He thought I was kidding until he began his own quest for bbq happiness.
This burger as a whole is beyond compare, though they should think about offering a tableside bathing option!
