Anyone who is serious about baking these days has heard of Silpat baking mats. For those who haven’t, they are silicone/fiberglass mats made for baking. They are non stick and easy to clean up and eliminate the use of lard or butter on baking trays.
They are also stupidly expensive.
Not long ago, President’s Choice came out with their own version of the coveted baking mat. They looked pretty close to the original and were priced in around the $10 mark, which wasn’t bad. Still not cheap enough for me to consider buying any though.
I guess they’ve discontinued them, as last week I saw a big stack of them in our local Superstore on sale for just $5. I bought 2. Given that I’ve seen Silpat here in Durham Region for $65, I figure I got a pretty good deal! I haven’t used them yet, but you can be sure I will soon.
