If you are a regular reader, then you may have noticed that we’ve got a bit of a thing for Southern style BBQ. Oh yes, we like wine too! Right here in Whitby, we happen to have a spot known as Buster Rhino’s that just happens to have honest to goodness award winning BBQ.
Darryl Koster, the man behind the smoke, likes to switch things up a bit every now and then and is always looking for new ways to expose the people to good BBQ. Last year, the Buster Rhino’s BBQ Sampler Days were so popular that Koster has decided to do it again. The plan is that you show up at the appointed time, sit down and EAT BBQ for 2 and a half hours!
There are 4 dates set so far, December 11, January 15, February 12, and March 12. As you might guess, the February date is a special Valentines tasting. This one is a super special event, with a special but secret menu. To give you an idea of what might be served up, here is the menu from last year:
Pig Candy, Smokin Jalapeno Bites, MOINK Balls, Pulled Pork Sliders, Beef Brisket Sliders, Twice Smoked Brisket Lasagne, Southern Dry Rub Ribs and Hushpuppies, Bacon Apple Pie, Smoked Mars Bars, Smoked Caramel, Deep Fried Black Eyed Peas, Bacon Fresh off the Smoker.
What is Pig Candy? Well, the photo above gives you a visual but I’ll let Darryl describe it:
“Pig Candy is a slice of bacon that has been cooked to slightly crispy then covered with a sweet mixture of sugar and spices. It is then cooked again until the sugar has melted then it is cooled down. The end result is a product like you would never imagine.”
