Kitchen Reno: Day Seven

She Said

Have you ever been stood up for a date?  It happened to me once….  Frankly, it didn’t feel nearly as bad as being stood up by that electrician!!

Especially because I’ve cancelled with the guy that took so long to engage in the first place!!

The cabinet installation crew have dilly-dallied as long as they could….  Don’t forget, it was Gerry who asked them to hold off on installing the base cabinets…!!  That’s Gerry Dewan, by the way, in case you’re in the Ottawa area.  Small surprise he’s not listed with the Better Business Bureau….

Well, now I’ll just have to call and grovel with the original electrician, but not today, since I’ve got a house guest and I’m trying to cook her dinner tonight!!

The guys finish with the cabinets by noon.  They look great!!  Other than a bunch of damaged doors….  But the installers have made a list and I’ve got one of my own.  They’ll all be replaced and that’s what matters to me at this moment.

The next challenge?  There are no counter tops!  So, my house guest and I will have to go out to find a temporary solution (i.e., inexpensive shelving) before getting groceries.  We have to go further afoot than I’d like to get this accomplished.  At the second Home Depot store we try, we find what we need.  Now we just need to get this 8-foot piece of shelving cut into two 43 1/4-inch pieces and we’ll use the remainder somewhere.

The saw is malfunctioning.  Ugh.

But, my superstar Home Depot associate is confident, once I explain what I need, so he’ll bend the safety rules.  Hence, not mentioning the exact location, or his name (thanks, Dude!).

Finally!!  We’re ready to make some dinner.  Day  Still no appliances, but we feel a sense of accomplishment.  And while Mooby and I make dinner, our good friend cleans our new cupboards for us!!  Trisha, you are one in a million!!

Hopefully, dinner didn’t suck and she’ll come back again someday, when this is all done….

Stay tuned!

That was a frustrating day. The electrician not bothering to show up set us back by about three weeks. The upside is that the cabinets look great, and we can unpack all our kitchen gear. It’s pretty exciting to see it all come together in big chunks like this.

Gotta love it when someone says “yep…first thing in the morning” and then pulls a no show the very next morning!

    Dipstick.

Seriously. I *could not* believe it! Nor could the other contractors!! Dipstick, indeed. I appreciate the sympathy…!
